Launched by SJMCAA, the Rural Health Initiative supports rural Johnites with education, equipment, infrastructure, technology and professional connection.
Through FOSJ, alumni and friends can strengthen care where it already lives.

Johnites serve in mission hospitals, charitable institutions and rural centers across India. SJMCAA connects them with the knowledge and generosity of the St. John’s family.

They may serve far from St. John’s, but never alone.

Local physicians identify the priorities. SJMCAA and FOSJ help match support to needs with lasting value.
The initiative offers a free annual two-day CME program with more than 300 attendees. Free online workshops keep rural Johnites connected to colleagues and current clinical knowledge throughout the year.
Diagnostic tools provide earlier answers. Laboratory equipment brings testing closer to home. Technology connects rural physicians with specialists.
Clinical space, technology and communications strengthen what a center can offer today—and for years to come.

Mining and tribal hub

Shahid Hospital

The challenge
Critical poisonings, myocardial infarctions and venomous snake bites managed amid immense volumes without intensive monitoring.

The intervention
Five new cardiac monitors.

The outcome
Expanded High Dependency Unit capability and continuous monitoring for high-risk patients.

Bastar District, Chhattisgarh

Sewa Sadan Center

The challenge
A residential haven for wandering and homeless people living with severe psychiatric and medical illness, where sedation increased fall risk.

The intervention
Specialized railed cots.

The outcome
Prevented accidental bed falls and secondary fractures while protecting safety and dignity.

Suburban Chennai, Tamil Nadu

St. Joseph of Cluny Hospital

The challenge
High volumes of low-income antenatal patients, migrant workers and high-risk obstetric cases needing daily checks.

The intervention
Cardiotocography machine and infant warmer.

The outcome
Immediate ground-floor fetal monitoring and protection of newborns from thermal shock.

Our Lady of Rosary Center

The challenge
A hidden epidemic of diabetes and vascular disease among an isolated older population.

The intervention
Biothesiometer and ankle-brachial pressure index meter.

The outcome
The area’s first dedicated diabetic screening and limb-salvage awareness clinic.

Holy Cross Wellness Center

The challenge
Transitioning from an orphanage into a residential clinic able to provide baseline treatment.

The intervention
Electrolyte analyzer, computer and printer.

The outcome
Digitalized data and immediate sodium, potassium and chloride checks for chronic renal failure patients.
