St. John’s Medical College Alumni Association (R) Bengaluru
St. John’s Medical College Alumni Association (SJMCAA) started in 1972 as a body to represent the needs and aspirations of students who passed out of the MBBS course in St. John’s Medical College. This association was registered under the Karnataka Societies Act in 1972. Over the years, it has expanded to include alumni from the PG courses of St. John’s. Its current membership has crossed 3000 alumni doctors. The office of this Association is located at the premises of St. John’s Medical College, Sarjapura Road, Bangalore – 560 034.
The aims and objectives of the institution are laid out in the Memorandum of Associations and some of key points are as follows:
- To develop, encourage and foster friendship and fellowship among the medical students, teachers, senior administrative staff, and management, past and present, of St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore.
- To arrange and conduct scientific, professional, social and cultural programmes for the benefit of members.
- To conduct and participate actively in public outreach project such as Health Education, Rural Health Schemes, Mobile Hospital Services, Specialist Camps, Medical Exhibitions etc.
- To assist or support alumni in distress on a case-by-case basis.
- To assist meritorious and needy medical students by offering scholarships and financial grants.
- To assist doctors in rural service and those who plan to pursue higher studies and training.
- To participate actively in continuing Medical Education Programmes.
- To collect and manage the funds for the benefit of the Association by way of donations, contributions, aid, membership fees and subscriptions.
- To maintain active liaison with foreign and local chapters for mutual benefit.
Over the years, the SJMCAA committee has been conducting specific academic programs, social, sport and cultural activities to promote networking of the alumni. The local chapters in other continents have actively supported the work of the SJMCAA committee.
