Jovita Crasta MD (President)

“Jo“ who is from the 1974 batch, completed her psychiatric residency at Nassau University Hospital, Long Island. She has over 35 years of experience in clinical psychiatry. In 2003 she was named the Vice Chair of Psychiatry at Mount Sinai South in Long Island and Medical Director of their Mental Health Counselling Ctr. She is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and Council Board member of the Queens Psychiatric Societ

She has served on the Board of FOSJ since 2014 and has been past president of the St Johns Alumni NA chapter 2010 – 2013

Jo Ioined Visting Nurse Services NewYork as Consultant to Queens Intensive Mobile Treatment of the homeless after a long academic career. She fell in love with the work, caring for the most difficult homeless and Mentally ill . She serves as the Medical Director and Chief Psychiatrist of Community Mental health Services, VNS NY

Maya Rose Therattil MS., MD (Vice President)

Maya, (SJMC ’92) has been actively involved with the Friends of St. Johns Medical College Inc. for over two decades and is a member of it’s Board of Directors since 2016. Currently Clinical Assistant Professor and Pathway Director for Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Drexel University College of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA, she is also a Consultant Physiatrist both at St. Mary Rehabilitation Hospital, Langhorne, PA and Penn Med Princeton Hospital, Plainsboro, NJ. Prior to her current role she has been Consultant Physiatrist, St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center, Lawrenceville, NJ; Adjunct Associate Professor, Unit of Hope and PM&R, St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore, India; and, Director, Inpatient Rehabilitation Services and Spinal Cord Disorders, Montefiore Health System, Bronx, NY.

Sunil Babu MD (Secretary)

Sunil, a Johnite from the Batch of 1990 has been involved with St. John’s North American alumni chapter for many years including functioning as the Vice President of the organization during the 2018-2020 period. After graduation from St. John’s in 1995, he trained in UK, successfully completing MRCP. In 2020, he moved to USA for Internal medicine residency followed by Hematology/Oncology fellowship. Sunil currently practices in Fort Wayne Indiana with Fort Wayne Medical Oncology & Hematology. He is a Physician/Partner of the organization.In addition to clinical practice, he heads the clinical research center acting as the local principal investigator for clinical trials pertaining to innovative treatments in cancer and blood disorders.

Selwyn J. Baptist, MD, FCAP, FASCP

Selwyn who is from the first batch of St. John’s is Chairman Emeritus, Department of Pathology, Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston, New Jersey (retired Dec 2018); CAP Commissioner State of New Jersey; Inspector, College of American Pathologists; Advisor, FOSJ Board of Trustees; Chairman, FAEE Board of Trustees. He was Managing Partner of Livingston Pathology Associates, LLC; General Secretary (1st) of SJMCAA, President (2nd) of SJMCAA NA Chapter. Besides his busy pathology practice that included teaching and research, he served on County, State and National Professional Committees.

Peter D’Sa MD
Redhook, New York
Batch of 1974

“Pedro” is die hard Johnite from the batch of 1974. After graduting from St. John’s medical school, he completed his residency and fellowship from Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. Peter was a founding partner of All Island Gastroenterology in Long Island, New York. He currently practices in Hudson, NY.
He was one of the first official Secretaries of the NA chapter in 1983-84 and was Secretary again and then President of the NA chapter around the turn of the century.
Peter is a founding member and on the Board of Directors of Goodworks Charitable foundation in Alabama as well as President of St. Andrews charities in NY. He is always ready to help a good cause.
